Just got back from spending the weekend doing the lounge thing at Anime LA, then getting back to the Bay Area in time for my first ever BASFA meeting. All in all a very good way to start off my fanac for the year, but am definitely looking forward to getting some well earned sleep since I do have to work tomorrow, alas.

Since it's going to be a couple of weeks until the next SF/SF, I figured I'd do a short Loscon report now.

The original plan was to go down late Wednesday night with [info]sinmix  and [info]clockworkbuddha , but unfortunately [info]sinmix  got sick and had to bail. [info]clockworkbuddha  was an angel though and offered to drive me down and drive back up the next day, which I guiltily agreed to. We spent Friday at my sister's house in Santa Monica and had a Thanksgiving dinner with some friends of hers, a good time was had by all.

Friday he dropped me off at the hotel and I started to get my con on almost immediatelly when I ran into Tim Powers right after checking into my hotel room, after which I unpacked and headed for the fanzine lounge to meet up with the crew. I was dissapointed to hear from [info]johnnyeponymous  that The Lovely and Talented Linda was also feeling unwell and would not be joining us.

[info]trinsf  had wisely arranged for us to have a room on the party floor for the fanzine lounge after dark so we set that up with some minor decor, then there was a quick run to the store for booze before getting changed into my Roman crossplay outfit for the evening, which started out as Caesar but with the addition of glittery laurels and a purse was really more Nero, frankly. The Lounge went nice and late but at some point I bailed to check out the dance, which was being DJ'd very well by Patrick Beckstead mostly with New Wave tunes, and I danced most of the rest of the night away, eventually getting to sleep around dawn.

Saturday I started off okay but faded as the day went on, but I was determined to stay awake until after the Scalzi Wheaton Super Happy Fun Hour, which turned out to be so totally worth it. Not only were the hosts very entertaining but it was a chance to see the Velvet Wesley up close and personal, [info]johnnyeponymous , [info]trinsf  and Jason Schachat were also able to get [info]scalzi  and [info]wilwheaton  to pose with The Scarf (which really needs it's own LJ or something, Chris)

After all that excitement I took a much needed nap to recover for the evening's festivities. I put on my greek style outfit complete with a big curly wig and headed up to the lounge. Between the big evening events and John Hertz's late night party we had less traffic in the lounge on Saturday night but it was still a lot of fun. Eventually I called it a night and left [info]trinsf  and Schachat on duty again, I suspect they may cash those points in at some later date.

Sunday is always a little sad at a con, but since I was staying through Monday to take the train I didn't have to deal with check out at least. I spent time in the daytime lounge, wandered the art show and the dealer's room and almost accidentally found myself in a panel where David Gerrold was screening an upcoming episode of New Voyages which was unfinished but very good, and which I hope to see up for Hugo consideration.

There were the usual goodbyes and eventually I went to get my stuff packed for my early check out, checked out the Dead Dog and gravitated back to the lounge after dark room to hang with the crew and see if we could finish off the leftover booze (we couldn't) before retiring to bed far later than was wise.

Thankfully my Monday involved napping, sipping wine and eating with [info]trinsf  on the Coast Starlight all the way home, which is the only way to wrap up a Loscon with style.
