Good start to the weekend

After work yesterday I headed over to the Hyatt Regency to hang with [info]trinsf, [info]britgeekgrrl  and [info]hai_irouchuujin. I arrived later than I would have liked and stayed a bit later than originally planned but had a very good time. We discussed another Hugo nominee; Ted Chiang's Exhalation-which was the most recent Escape Pod broadcast but which I haven't read yet, [info]britgeekgrrl  brought a pint of Humphrey Slocomb's 'secret breakfast' flavor (corn flakes and bourbon) which was delicious, and I promised to bring some bacon chocolate next week. We were joined later by [info]digitalsidhe  and then by two other folks whose names escape me now, Paul and someone else... this was shortly before I left, so I didn't get to chat much with them, unfortunately.

... the rest of the evening ... )

This past weekend, and this week, have been all about getting ready for Steam Powered. Over the weekend [info]sinmix , [info]clockworkbuddha  and self hit Scrap, which was a little overwhelming but tons of fun. Cliff's Variety, Costume Party, Goodwill, etc. have all contributed to the piles of costume bits that I now have all over the damned place. Sometime in the next month or two I'm definitely ordering new storage furniture of some type.

I still don't have anything near a completed outfit, of course, although I have like ninetyzillion partial concepts.

On Sunday I went to a going away party for my friend Ian, who is going back to Peru after visiting for a few months. It was a nice party at a place across the street from where I used to live on Fell Street, he has an eclectic group of friends so it;s always interesting hanging out with him. It was also much nicer to be able to actually say hasta luego this time.

In other news, Chris Garcia's Drink Tank just ended it's quite entertaining Fandom on Infitine Earth's series and I provided the cover for #185. I'm not done reading them all, but I looked at all the purty pictures!

Also, over at Huffpo I found this fascinating piece on clean tagging

So I ended up staying up till dawn working on art and costuming since things seemed to actually be coming together finally... when my morning alarm went off I decided to play hooky from school to catch some sleep and get even more stuff done since I think I finally figured out a solution to the skirt issue!

I felt slightly guilty until I woke up and looked out the window.... today wasn't made for working, no way :)

Now I need to go forage for coffee.

Has anyone taken any of the classes at Beadissimo? I'm vaguely thinking about taking the basic wire techniques class and was wondering if it's worth it. $45 doesn't seem bad-but I don't know how hard this stuff is to learn.

Too much steam!

I'm spending far too much time at work googling around for costume ideas and steampunk pretties...

I want this coat;

Or, y'know,  this;
