I have a room reserved for both World Fantasy and Steamcon and am looking to share.
Steamcon I have Thursday, Oct 22, checking out Monday.
World Fantasy I have Thursday Oct 29, checking out Sunday. I probably won't take Friday off after all, so might cancel Thursday unless I find a roommate who wants to take that day over.
I wanted to post it to my flist first, anyone interested or know someone who might be?

Back from Steam Powered.
The hotel was an interesting setting and worked very well in some ways (including a very nice and helpful staff) but was too small and not well suited to a weekend convention. Otherwise things seemed to go smoothly, I didn't hear about any major issues and the dealers room, programming, concert and the decor/props that the convention supplied were all good to great. There were some very nice touches and the crowd was well dressed and enthusiastic. The vibe was a very good all weekend and I had a great time, spent too much money, drank just enough alcohol and danced only a little less than I would have liked.
I am exhausted, satisfied with my weekend experience and wishing I could sleep for the next 48 hours.
Proper report to follow.

Too many choices!
Does anyone have any personal opinions on the hotels available?
ETA: Crown Plaza booked! Yay/Ouchie! Now to figure out how I'm getting to Denver.

Had a fairly relaxed weekend, babying myself a little since I was feeling a sore throat head cold kinda thing coming on since Thursday. Mostly drank tea and continued my re-watching of Buffy with the end of S3 and start of S4. Also finally watched 'Infernal Affairs' which I'd been meaning to watch forever, I hadn't realized 'The Departed' was a remake of it. Then I watched Kung Fu Hustle cause it never gets old.
Sunday I finally sorted the two boxes of SF mags that I got from Freecycle, I now have a pretty good run of F&SF and of Astounding/Analog, Asimov's and Galaxy coming in second and third, a smattering of issues of If, Imagination and a couple of others. I got some bookshelf tidying up done as well and tried to tell myself I am not buying myself any new books until I get through some of the backlog. I'm pretty sure I was lying, though.
This weekend I head to LA and then Vegas for a couple of days to do the family thing, then I get back on the first, unpack, do laundry and head south again for ALA on Friday... I expect after that the rest of January is going to involve more tea and DVDs.
And I still haven't done any gift shopping.

It looks like I'm going to my first Anime convention in January. I should probably watch some, huh? XD
So, for those of you who've been, is it worth doing regular costuming or is it not worth it if you don't have something from a show?

Overpacked, sleep deprived, ready to go!
(Well ok, not for another three and a half hours, maybe I should be some work done before then)

Silicon was loads of fun, I was a little worried on arrival since there seemed to be fewer people than last year, but soon realized that we had expanded to fill the entire hotel finally, so attendance was actually much higher. The art show was decent but as Geo pointed out, probably needs to move to a larger space that is easier to wander. Dealer's room was pretty good and I bought too much stuff. I only went to two panels including the zine one and I missed the Masquerade entirely. But the Halloweedon Hootenany was excellent, the Browncoats did a superb job organizing, natch and the DJ was good, imho.
The weekend positively flew by, Silicon always seems so short, not being on a three day weekend. The bulk of my time was basically spent either lounging about in the Coffee Garden (daytime) or carousing (nightime) All the usual suspects were there,Tadao actually made it up from LA and there were even some folks who I was surprised to see this far north, like Jason Schachat.
frankwu not only flaked but apparently threw his own party to boot (out of spite, I'm sure)

Silicon is next week, but I have my membership, room and art show all paid, I just need to prep art and get stuff for the party.
I ust got my ticket down to LosCon, room is booked and ticket back is booked (yay train! yay
trinsf!) Art Show res. is done. All that's left is getting my membership which doesn't go up until Oct. 31st, so no rush.
I'm all set until 2008!
Oh look! Gallifrey has PayPal set up for registrations.

Anyone from the Bay Area heading down to Conjecture?
If I do go. I'm kinda thinking of swinging by LA first and only hitting the Con on Sat night/Sunday. Still not sure.
Must make mind up soon.

This weekend is Con-x-treme, a new and untested convention with all sorts of free floating rumours surrounding it. Some of the things I've heard are interesting, so we'll see how it goes.
Buuut... it's at the good ol' Doubletree, I know for sure at least some fabulous folks are gonna check it out if only for one day and hell, it's a convention so why not? I'll be there Friday night and stick around till Sunday and promise to write a report for the zine (yeah, the Westercon one is still on the way) this time fer sure. Srsly.
Now to figure out what to wear.

I stayed up until 4AM last night packing and whatnot and nearly didn't make it to work at all this morning. Now I'm staring at the clock willing it to be 2PM so I can book outta here. Even pretending to work is becoming too much of a chore... yaaaawn!
But I can feel the con energy sneaking up on me :D

Not like *that*... sheesh.
In any case, Art Show reg check has been cashed, so presumably I'm in. Membership has been purchased. Now it's time to hunker down and get some of the potential new art finished and start really looking for costumer stuff if I'm gonna do that.

Gallifrey is over, alas. It was a wonderful convention with lovely, lovely guests and I will almost certainly return next year. I took pictures and will be writting up a report for the next issue of SF/SF. The art show was small and unfortunately I didn't sell anything, but you can't win 'em all.
I am now at my sister's house in Santa Monica, the morning started off overcast and threatening rain but by the time I got here it was all blus skies and sunshine so I hit the beach, took some pictures and had a little breakfast. Now I need to gather my strength for the skiing. No rest for the wicked.

So it looks like I'm gonna opt for taking the train down to Gally... which means I may as well shoot for the nice one and take the Coast Starlight. I gotta get myself to Oakland, but all the other trains mean a bunch of bus to train to bus switches so whatev. The only issue now is figuring out luggage-if I can get a ride to and from Oakland it's one thing, if not then I gotsa leave some shoes behind or something.
Now I gotta get some new art done.

... but it was fun while it lasted. Attendance was low (I think) but there were a bunch of good parties and the dance turned out nicely after a slow start on Friday.
Seeing everyone was great, I only attended one panel but that was the William Tenn talk on the Welles War of the Worlds broadcast, so quality won out over quantity at least. I managed to sell a piece in the art show for a change, which was nice as was the "kids choice" sticker beside another piece.
As always a more detailed and entertaining account will be in the next SF/SF and a massively innacurate and borderline libelous one in the Drink Tank.
